One of the world’s great actors is calling it quits.

Daniel Day-Lewis, one of the most widely respected actors of his generation, says he’s retiring from acting.

His representative, Leslee Dart, says in a statement that the 60-year-old performer is “immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years” – but he will not comment further about the decision.

Day-Lewis’ retirement will make the upcoming Phantom Thread his final film.  He plays a fashion designer in 1950s London – and teams up again with There Will Be Blood director Paul Thomas Anderson.

Daniel Day-Lewis has won three Academy Awards and has been nominated five times – winning for performances in My Left Foot, There Will Be Blood and  and Lincoln.
